World Book Day at Derryquay
World Book Day

Posted March 23, 2019

World Book Day is Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading by providing them with an opportunity to have a book of their own.

World Book Day took place in the school on Friday, 9th March.  It was wonderful to see the children dressed as their favourite book characters.   The children took turns at introducing us to some of their favourite books and it was wonderful to see their avid interest in reading in this digital age.  Is breá linn na himeachtaí a bhíonn ar siúl ar Lá na Leabhar!

Seachtain Na Gaeilge

Posted March 23, 2019

Bhain na paistí an-sult as Seachtain na Gaeilge agus tá an Ghaeilge ar bharr a dteanga acu. Tháinig tuismitheoirí agus seantuismitheoirí go dtí an céilí ag deireadh na seachtaine agus bhí sport ag gach éinne.

Our annual Seachtain na Gaeilge in the school was a great success.  The children really entered into the spirit of it and displayed a very competent command of the Irish language.  The finale of the event was a Céilí Mór with a fantastic display of dancing from the children.  The music was provided by our our young musicians who are going from strength to strength under the guidance of James Alman and their other music teachers.  Thanks also to Sadie who as always contributed to the celebration.  Students who took part in Scór na bPáistí performed and entertained us a with a great sketch under the guidance of Marie Fitzgibbon.  Derryquay certainly has talent!!

End of Year Barbecue

Posted March 23, 2019

We will be holding our annual end of year Barbecue the week we finish up for the summer holidays in June.
This is always a great event when the parents take charge of the food and the cooking and is a great opportunity for the school community to take time out of their busy schedules and relax and catch up.

Annual Hill Walk

Posted March 23, 2019

Each year we take the Senior Class on a hillwalk under the stewardship of Daithí Ó Conaill from the Tralee Mountaineering group.  This is always a wonderful day out so much is learned from the endless knowledge of the area from Daithi.

Is saineolaí é Daithí ar an gceantar seo agus táimid fíor bhíioch dó as an aire a thugann sé do na páistí.

Annual Beach Visit

Posted March 23, 2019

In keeping with our emphasis on our locality and encouraging the children to also appreciate it another of our most popular days out is our trip to the beach which is as educational as it is a welcome break from the classroom.

We will be holding our annual Beach trip to Derrymore as soon as the weather allows.
This a morning of investigating the ecosystem of the beach, team games and overall a fun time in a beautiful place right on our doorstep.

Baineann gach éinne idir phaistí agus daoine fásta taithneamh as an lá.
