The senior class took part in the Something Fishy Programme during the year. They have learned about the lifecycle of the salmon and life in the river. The culmination of this project was a field trip to Derryquay River under the guidance of Michael McPartland of Inland Fisheries. The children were given the opportunity to handle eels, trout and salmon and to identify mini beasts from the river. It was very exciting and a valuable learning experience. Thanks to Kieran O’Halloran who kindly allowed us to access the river and to Collette, Séamus and Phil for assisting us in crossing the road.
The children have now begun a mural on a fishy theme. We will depict stories from mythology such as an Bradán Feasa and real as well as imagined sea and river creatures.
